The Day My Pain Left is from the ‘ Life & Lemons’ Collection
The day my pain left; I experienced the new
Dark clouds parting their curtains
Bright lights heralding the arrival of the sun
The midnight bell has struck,
Another day has arrived on the scene
My once-dark world is taking a breather.
The day my pain left; I shared a drink with destiny
She served me a shot of freedom and fear
The pair on a platter of peace with a side of hope
I take deep breaths,
The air feels different on this side of town
The journey to the unknown has started.
The day my pain left; I received my sight
Mirror mirror on my wall
Showing me truths I had been blind to
All the words they said to me?
A big fat lie
Mother nature whispered gently.
The day my pain left; I got a call to love
I heard the cry of the girl I had long abandoned
I saw, for the first time, the shadow she had become
Her pain was the canvas of her form,
Kissing, holding her hands, and hugging her tightly
I whispered, “Our prayers have been answered”
The day my pain left, I received a gift
A gift of do-overs and second chances
To live each day with no apologies
A gift of motion
Constantly unboxing new versions of me
And finally, learning to love me right.
